Discover Quality Requirements with the Mini-QAW

Good quality requirements support architectural decision making but collecting them is not always easy. The Quality Attribute Workshop (QAW) helps teams effectively gather requirements but can be costly and cumbersome to organize. The mini-QAW is a short (a few hours to a full day) workshop designed for inexperienced facilitators and a great fit for teams practicing Agile methods. The mini-QAW method has been used successfully by several groups throughout the world. It is finding its place as a standard tool among many software architects. During this session we will walk

through a mini-QAW simulation. You will gain first-hand experience facilitating and

participating in the workshop to get you ready to use the method back home.

Nutzen für den Teilnehmer:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to do the following:
- Describe what a mini-QAW is, how it is different from a full QAW, and when to use the mini vs. full version.
- Plan and facilitate their own mini-QAW.
- Select mini-QAW activities appropriate for their specific project and stakeholder context.
- Find more information on the method, activities, and quality attribute taxonomies
- Resolve stakeholder conflicts of interest visible using the various visualization approaches.
- Sell the mini QAW to their stakeholders and team

Behandelte Problemstellungen:
Traditional quality requirements engineering methods do not fit well in Agile development. We experienced a need for pragmatic approaches to get things done.
Thereby the mini-QAW was born.

Agile and architecture are sometimes seen as opposite things. Yet, properly understood quality requirements are a necessity for a fit-for-purpose architecture.
